About Newtown Babe Ruth Baseball
Mission Statement: The Newtown Babe Ruth Baseball/Cal Ripkin program, using regulation competitive baseball rules, teaches skills, mental and physical development, a respect for the rules of the game, and basic ideals of sportsmanship and fair play. In all aspects, Newtown Babe Ruth is committed to providing our participants the very best educational, sports experience possible. It is our fundamental belief that every child with a desire to play baseball be afforded the opportunity to do so. Keeping the beloved game of community baseball safe and fun is our objective at all times.
The Newtown Babe Ruth Baseball (NBR) league is open to boys and girls between the ages of 5-19. Our program is affiliated with the Babe Ruth League and its Cal Ripken Division.
Keeping baseball fun, especially in the early stages of youth baseball, is the primary goal of the Babe Ruth League's Cal Ripken Division, which targets players between the ages of 5-12 and is comprised of Major, Minor, Rookie, and T-Ball divisions. The Babe Ruth 13-15 and Babe Ruth 16-18 divisions provide players with an opportunity to practice the ideals of sportsmanship, fair play, high morality and democratic spirit that were learned in the Cal Ripken Division. These older players have the opportunity to hone their skills in a community-level program with the potential to compete in a divisional World Series.
NBR League Boundaries: NBR is based in Newtown, Connecticut. If you live in Newtown, Dodgingtown, or Sandy Hook and/or have an address with the 06470 or 06482 zip code, you can play for NBR. All spring games and practices are held in town. The Babe Ruth division plays a schedule comprised of games in Newtown and some of the surrounding towns. Summer and fall leagues play in town, but also involve some travel, beginning with the 8-year-old division.
